Steelstown Primary School, Derry

Eco Update

27th Jan 2018

The school is in the process of submitting an application for the prestigious Green Flag.
If successful, it will be the first time that Steelstown Primary has secured the accolade.
The three areas that we have focused on are: outdoor learning; bio-diversity and litter.
Bio-diversity involves creating the conditions where plants, bugs, birds and small creatures can thrive.
One of the most important steps towards this has been the work on the woodland area at the front entrance of the school.
The area has been transformed as a result of the hard work of the pupils and parents who volunteered to help out at our recent school tidy up day on October 21.
Recycling bins have been placed in all the classrooms as part our efforts to reduce litter.
Young litter-pickers volunteer every break time and lunch time to clean up the school grounds with the caretaker Mr Duffy.
Well done to everyone who has supported these projects and keep up the good work.
